After more than 26 years of teaching, these are the questions I'm asked most often by parents, students, and families.
How do I choose the right Taekwondo school?
Look at the instructor's credentials, coaching certifications, and affiliations with recognized organizations such as Taekwondo Canada or Ontario Taekwondo. Then attend a class. Watch how the instructor teaches, how the students interact, and whether your child feels engaged, comfortable, and supported.
What ages do you teach?
I teach students from age 5 through adulthood. Every class is structured to meet you where you are and help you reach your full potential.
What makes TyVes Taekwondo different?
TyVes is led by a Master who continues to train and compete. Classes are intentionally small so every student receives personal attention, and promotions are earned through knowledge, skill, and readiness—not simply because enough time has passed.
What is the best age to start Taekwondo?
Five is generally the starting age as our classes are structured training. Every child develops differently, so if a parent feels their four-year-old is ready, I'll gladly meet them and assess whether they're ready to learn in a class setting.
What happens in my first class?
Relax, follow along, and don't worry about getting everything right. You'll be taught every step of the way—after all, every black belt once wore a white belt.
Do you teach self-defence?
Yes. Self-defence is an important part of my curriculum. Students learn awareness, avoidance, and how to respond confidently if an uncomfortable situation arises.
Can Taekwondo help with bullying?
Yes. Confidence is taught, not given. Through proper coaching, group support, and learning real skills, students develop the confidence to handle difficult situations with good judgment.
How long does it take to earn a black belt?
Approximately three years. There is a lot to learn, and students are promoted when they know the curriculum—not simply because enough time has passed.
Can adults start Taekwondo?
Absolutely. I offer dedicated adult classes designed to improve flexibility, joint mobility, balance, and confidence—not simply children's classes adapted for adults. It's never too late to start.
